YOU TURN is Lenor and Zach’s story. One of the exciting things about writing this book is that I could revisit my time in Paris where I studied for four years. Here is an extract from YOU TURN directly inspired by my love for that magical city.
Pulling down the hem of the shirt, I stepped out on the balcony and found Zach sitting on a narrow bench, his bare feet dangling over the railings, a cigarette resting between his fingers. This view in itself would have been overwhelming enough, if it hadn’t been for the magical panorama that spread before me.
“My God,” I gasped.
“I never get bored of it. I never will.”
Montmartre was atop a hill in the north of Paris. At his summit stood la Basilique de Notre-Dame with its white dome and cascading down the slopes from it, a tangle of steep, narrow streets, intertwined with a mass of steps. Zach’s apartment building had to be close to the top of the hill because I was looking down at the city from a cloud. Pretty much everything was there for the eye to behold: the Eiffel Tower, Beaubourg, and a sea of rooftops with illuminated windows popping out from everywhere. The sounds of the capital ascended to us but was muffled and unobtrusive.
My hands curled around the railings. “It’s like being a bird.”
